Can ultrasound detect pregnancy at 1 week?
PregnancyAnswer
An ultrasound scan is usually not able to detect a pregnancy as early as one week after conception. At this early stage, the developing embryo is very small and may not be visible using ultrasound technology. The earliest an ultrasound scan can usually detect a pregnancy is around 4-5 weeks after the last menstrual period (LMP). At this stage, the gestational sac, the fluid-filled sac that encloses the embryo, may be visible on ultrasound.
If you suspect you are pregnant at one week post-conception, a blood test measuring levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG would be more accurate than an ultrasound. A medical professional can provide accurate guidance.
