Can PMS cause infertility?
Female InfertilityAnswer
No, PMS, or Premenstrual Syndrome, does not directly cause infertility. PMS refers to the variety of physical and emotional symptoms that many women experience in the days before their period starts, such as bloating or mood changes. In fact, at SCI Hospital, we often see PMS as a sign that ovulation has likely occurred in that cycle, and ovulation is necessary for pregnancy. While some underlying conditions that can cause infertility (like endometriosis or certain hormonal issues) might also have symptoms that feel like or worsen PMS, PMS itself isn't a barrier to conception.
