How to check varicocele?
VaricoceleAnswer
You can perform a simple self-check for a varicocele at home, ideally after a warm shower when the scrotal skin is relaxed. Stand in front of a mirror and gently feel each testicle and the area above it. A varicocele is a mass of enlarged veins, so you are feeling for anything that seems like a soft, lumpy cluster, often described as a “bag of worms.” It is usually located above the testicle and is most common on the left side. It may not be noticeable when you are lying down, so it is best to check while standing. Also, look for any visible swelling or if one testicle hangs lower or appears smaller than the other.
While a self-check is a good first step, it is not a substitute for a professional diagnosis. If you feel anything unusual, you should see a doctor. The experienced urologists at SCI Hospital can provide an accurate diagnosis. We recommend scheduling an online or in-person consultation by calling us.
