Does erectile dysfunction cause infertility?
Male InfertilityAnswer
Erectile dysfunction, or ED, doesn't directly cause a man to be infertile in terms of his sperm quality. A man with ED can still produce healthy sperm. However, at SCI Hospital, we explain that ED can make it very challenging to achieve a pregnancy through natural intercourse. If a man is unable to get or maintain an erection firm enough for sex, it becomes difficult for semen to be deposited in the woman's vagina to allow sperm to reach the egg.
So, while the sperm might be fine, ED creates a physical barrier to conception. We can discuss various treatments for ED and also fertility treatments like IUI or IVF that can help bypass this issue.
