What Is Hydrocelectomy?

Hydrocelectomy is a surgical procedure used to treat a persistent or symptomatic hydrocele. During the procedure, the surgeon removes or repairs the sac containing the excess fluid around the testicle to reduce the swelling and help prevent it from returning.

A hydrocele develops when excess fluid collects around the testicle, causing swelling of the scrotum. When the hydrocele is persistent, becomes large, causes discomfort, or interferes with daily activities, surgical treatment may be considered.
