Yes. Peyronie’s disease can contribute to erectile dysfunction (ED). Penile curvature and changes in the erectile tissue may make it difficult to achieve or maintain an erection, while pain, anxiety, and concerns about sexual performance can further affect erectile function.

Peyronie’s disease occurs when scar tissue, or plaque, develops within the penis. This can cause the penis to curve during erection and may sometimes be associated with pain, narrowing or shortening of the penis, and difficulty with sexual intercourse.

Peyronie’s disease may contribute to ED through several factors:

  • Changes in the structure and elasticity of erectile tissue
  • Difficulty achieving adequate rigidity
  • Difficulty maintaining an erection
  • Pain during erections
  • Penile curvature that makes intercourse difficult
  • Anxiety or reduced confidence related to changes in the penis

The erectile dysfunction may be physical, psychological, or a combination of both. Men with Peyronie’s disease should therefore be evaluated for both the structural changes and their erectile function.

Treatment depends on the severity of curvature, pain, erectile function, and the individual's sexual goals. When ED is also present, treatment may need to address both conditions. In men with significant ED that does not respond adequately to other treatments, penile prosthesis surgery may be considered as an option.
