Dr. Gautam Banga
MBBS, MS - General Surgery, MCh - UrologyRecovery after a diagnostic cystoscopy is usually quick, and many patients return to their normal routine the same day or the following day. Mild burning during urination, urinary frequency, or a small amount of blood in the urine may occur temporarily. Recovery can take longer if a biopsy or additional treatment is performed.
The recovery period depends on the type of cystoscopy, the anaesthesia used, and whether any additional procedure was performed.
After a straightforward flexible cystoscopy, patients may experience:
Mild burning or stinging during urination
A temporary increase in urinary frequency or urgency
Slightly pink urine or a small amount of blood
Mild discomfort in the lower abdomen
These symptoms usually improve within a short period. Drinking adequate fluids, unless medically restricted, may help reduce urinary irritation.
If a rigid cystoscopy, biopsy, or bladder treatment is performed, recovery may take longer. Patients may need additional rest and should follow the treating team's instructions about physical activity, medicines, and follow-up.
Contact your doctor promptly if you develop fever, severe or worsening pain, heavy bleeding, blood clots, or difficulty passing urine.
At SCI International Hospital, Dr. Gautam Banga provides recovery guidance based on the type of cystoscopy performed and the patient's clinical condition. Patients receive instructions on hydration, activity, follow-up, and symptoms that require medical attention.
