What are infertile eggs?
Female InfertilityAnswer
The term 'infertile eggs' isn't a standard medical diagnosis we use at SCI Hospital, but when people use this phrase, they are generally referring to a woman's eggs that are not capable of resulting in a healthy pregnancy. This can happen for a few reasons. For example, as a woman gets older, the quality of her eggs can decline, meaning they might have an incorrect number of chromosomes and cannot develop into a healthy baby even if fertilized. Sometimes, a woman may not be releasing eggs regularly (anovulation).
In other cases, an egg might have issues that prevent it from being fertilized by sperm or from developing correctly after fertilization. So, it’s more about an egg's quality or its potential to create a viable pregnancy.
